As you have found out in my previous summaries, Rory does not like Amy. She doesn't treat Amy nicely, and she plans events that no camper would want to experience. Rory is classified as the snobby popular camper that girls follow around because they are scared of being on her bad side. Amy does not do that. She sticks with her best friend Erin. That is what Rory doesn't like.
Today is visiting day. Amy's parents and charlie show up at camp to visit her. Many unexpected things happen during this visit. Rory sucks up to Amy's mom because she doesn't want Amy to tell her mom the terrible things she has been doing. This causes Amy's mom to love Rory, and want Amy to be friends with her.
When Amy tries to tell her mom what Rory was doing and how mean she really is, her mom blames it on her. She continues to tell Amy that the reason Rory is mean to her is because she hasn't given her a chance. She also tells Amy that she is spending too much time with Erin and she needs to hangout more with Rory.
When I was reading this section I was in awe. I did not expect Rory to behave this way to impress Amy's mom. Who knew someone so mean could put up such a great act. I can't wait to continue reading to find out what happens next!
I rate this book a 9/10
Happy New Year! I'm so glad to have found your blog -- and delighted that you're really enjoying CAMP. I think it would be so much fun to discuss CAMP with your class, so I hope that you or your teacher will send me an email (elaine@authorelainewolf.com), and we'll see if we can make that happen. Wishing you and all the ninth-graders in western NY a year filled with happiness and great books, Elaine Wolf (author of CAMP and DANNY'S MOM; authorelainewolf.com)
