The book Truancy by Isamu Fukui takes place in a totalitarian city. This means that the city abides by strict rules and tries to control every aspect of it. A boy named Tack and Suzie, his sister, unfortunately have to live in this world. They have everyday challenges to face, but these challenges are not what one would usually expect. They have to be silent and obedient all day, especially in school. If Tack and Suzie are even caught whispering, they will be expelled. I like how the author uses these harsh punishments to show how extreme this situation is. This evil society would not have have been possible without the mayor. The mayor must be one of the most evil, heartless people alive. He is so mean that he fired someone for asking a simple question. Now, will Tack and Suzie catch on to the mayor's evil-doings or will be too late? Read the book to find out.
So far, this book is very interesting but confusing. It seems like the mayor is hiding something BIG. I don't quite know what it is since I have not read that much of it yet, but I think it has to do with how the society runs and operates. All in all, this book is not bad. Hopefully, the plot will continue to thicken, author will elaborate on the situation so it makes more sense. I recommend it to anyone who likes complicated plots and extreme societies.
