Looking For Alaska By: John Green

I just started to read the book Looking For Alaska a couple of days ago, and I can't put it down.
This book mostly takes place 15 miles south of Birmingham, Alabama, at Culver Creek Prepatory school. Miles Halter is from Florida. He is not really the social type. He never really had a lot of friends. When he got to prep school, he was immediately accepted by his roommate Chip "the colonel." Colonel then gives Miles the nickname Pudge. This nickname is ironic because Miles is tall and thin. Pudge and The Colonel's friendship leads to the meeting of Alaska Young who Pudge immediately develops a crush on. When the "Weekday Warriors,"a group of rich, stuck up, Birmingham-area students, pull a prank on Pudge, they try to find out who exactly it was and why they did such a thing to Pudge.
This book mostly takes place 15 miles south of Birmingham, Alabama, at Culver Creek Prepatory school. This books setting is written in modern day 21st century. If the time period or setting were to be changed, this book would not be the same. This is because the actions of high school kids in our time period is way different from kids in previous years.
The most important place in this book is the lake. This lake is really where the key parts in this book take place. The lake is the students "escape place" to do the things that aren't allowed on campus, like smoking. "At the edge of the lake, just before the sandy beach, we sat down in an Adirondack swing." (page 16) This quote describes the part at the lake where mostly everything happens. This is where Pudge smokes his first cigarette. Also, this is where Pudge talked to Alaska for the first time to find out that she was the girl of his dreams.
This book has been very good so far! I recommend this book to anyone in high school looking for a great book because this book accommodates anyone!

I rate this book a 10/10 so far!

  1. You did a nice job on your blog. You had a very descriptive quote to describe the setting. There is lots of detail about the setting. sounds like a good book.
